8/18/2021 2:55:00 PM

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP Athletics will unveil a new gathering spot dubbed the Speaking Rock Pregame Party for all Miner fans prior to each home football game for the 2021 season.

Starting three hours prior to kickoff, the Speaking Rock Pregame Party will be located in the northern portion of the GR2 parking lot next to the Larry K. Durham Center. The programmed tailgate area is set to provide Miner fans with live entertainment, various food and beverage options for purchase, giveaways and other festivities leading up to kickoff. Fans will be able to experience all the fun for UTEP's home opener versus Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 4 with the Speaking Rock Pregame Party set to open at 4 p.m. on that Saturday afternoon with kickoff at 7 p.m.

The Speaking Rock Pregame Party is open to the public and free to attend and fans can expect food trucks and vendors, adult beverages for purchase, live music made possible by Speaking Rock, the UTEP Bookstore trailer, sponsorship activations, inflatables for kids, and the UTEP Alumni Association will also have a presence.

For Sept. 4, '90s rock band, Puddle of Mudd will be the musical headliner with a local opening act also playing. Bands for the rest of the Miners' home games will be announced in the near future.

"We continue to work hard to reinvent UTEP Football game days – creating more energy, enjoyment and entertainment for fans," stated Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations Nick Popplewell. "We appreciate Speaking Rock's tremendous support and involvement in this concept, their partnership is crucial."

The location of the Speaking Rock Pregame Party also provides fans with the perfect spot to cheer on the UTEP football team as they arrive at the stadium for game day. "Miner Walk" will take place adjacent to the tailgate area, approximately two hours prior to each home game and will include the UTEP marching band and spirit squad performing and leading the crowd in cheers.

"The goal is to create an exciting tailgate space for fans on game days, serving as a rallying spot before they go into the Sun Bowl to cheer on the Miners," added Popplewell.

The 2021 UTEP Football season opens on Saturday, Aug. 28 with the "Battle of I-10" versus NM State in Las Cruces. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. MT at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The home opener versus Bethune-Cookman is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Sun Bowl and will kick off at 7 p.m. MT.
