Centennial Commemoration in Austin

The University of Texas at El Paso will proudly celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2014. This significant milestone will be marked by a variety of commemorative events and activities to celebrate UTEP’s distinguished past, showcase our current strengths, and anticipate our bright future.

On April 16, 2013, we will recognize the Texas Legislature and the Governor for their roles in enacting S.B. 183 (1913) to authorize the creation of the Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy. Exactly one hundred years after Governor O. B. Colquitt signed the bill, special resolutions will be read in the House and Senate. Throughout the day, a team of alumni ambassadors wearing their UTEP orange neckties and scarves will fill the Capitol building, visiting legislators to express thanks and share UTEP’s vision for the future of higher education in Texas and the nation.

The Office of Alumni Relations invites all UTEP alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends, to pack the galleries of the Texas House and Senate Chambers for readings of the special resolution on the morning of Tuesday, April 16 (between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. with the exact time to be determined). In the evening, a reception will be held at the AT&T Conference Center Grand Ballroom at 6:30 p.m. for members of the extended UTEP family, alumni, faculty, staff and friends.
