2020 UTEP Distinguished Alumni and Gold Nugget Award Nomination

The true measure of a university’s greatness can be found in the achievements of its alumni. Many graduates of The University of Texas at El Paso (previously Texas Western College and The Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy) have made exceptional contributions to their profession, community, and the University.
The UTEP Alumni Association and The University of Texas at El Paso are proud to honor such outstanding alumni through the Distinguished Alumni and Gold Nugget Awards. If you know of, or are one of these accomplished alumni, please complete and submit this nomination form by February 21, 2020.

Recommendations for Selection of a UTEP Distinguished Alumni and a Gold Nugget

What is the Distinguished Alumni Award and a Gold Nugget Award?

The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented by the UTEP Alumni Association and The University of Texas at El Paso, and is the highest honor that can be bestowed on an exceptional alumna/us. In comparison, the Gold Nugget Awards are presented by UTEP’s Colleges and Schools to their most outstanding alumni.

Submission of Applications

Individuals can be nominated for a Distinguished Alumni Award and/or a Gold Nugget Award in the following ways:

• Self-nomination (individual completes the application in full on their own behalf);
• An individual can be nominated by someone else, but an application has to be completed in full for that individual.

Qualification requirements

To be considered for the Distinguished Alumni and/or a Gold Nugget award, each alumna/us must be:

• A graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso;
• Able to accept the award in person during the annual Homecoming festivities (Homecoming week usually falls from mid-October to early November).

Each alumna/us will be evaluated on a combination of their:

• Accomplishments in their business, profession, life work, or other worthy endeavors;
• Integrity, stature, and ability to inspire pride in the faculty, staff, students, and alumni;
• Contributions to the community, state, nation or international contributions;
• Continuing engagement, interest, loyalty and pride in UTEP;
• Uncommon generosity of time and/or financial support to the University;
• Ability through deed and actions to reflect and recognize the importance of his/her UTEP education.

A nominee is ineligible if he/she:

• Is a full-time employee of UTEP;
• Is a candidate for any public office or currently serving in an elected position;
• Is a member of an alumni award selection committee;
• Has previously received the Distinguished Alumni Award (alumni can only be awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award one time).
• NOTE: An individual who has previously received a Gold Nugget Award is eligible to be nominated for the Distinguished Alumni Award.

• Short narrative
• Bio
• Resume 
• Photo
